ANVE vs Open WebUI.
self-hosted AI for offices

Short answer. Open WebUI is a self-hosted, multi-user AI chat platform with roles, document search (RAG) and LDAP/SSO. It sits in front of Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible model server and is free to self-host, but someone technical has to deploy it with Docker or pip, size the hardware and keep it updated. Since v0.6.6 its licence is source-available with a branding clause, not OSI open source. ANVE is a managed appliance with the hardware, models and office makers included.

Is Open WebUI open source?
Not in the OSI sense since v0.6.6 (19 April 2025). Its own licence page says the Open WebUI License is not OSI-approved; earlier versions were BSD-3 or MIT.
Can Open WebUI run offline?
Yes. Its README says it is built to run entirely offline when paired with a local model server.
Open WebUI or ANVE?
Open WebUI suits an IT team that wants to build its own stack. ANVE is for offices that want the stack delivered and managed.
