How should a firm run its first AI pilot? Small scope, real tasks, a baseline, written stop rules and a decision date.
Short answer. Keep it small and measurable: two or three real tasks, five to ten volunteers, four to six weeks, a baseline taken before the AI is used, success criteria and stop rules written down, and a decision meeting on a fixed date. Agree the data rules and who is responsible before anyone signs in. Measure net time, quality and problems, not enthusiasm. With ANVE, the demo call is free; the pilot is paid and its fee is agreed in writing before installation. The durations here are suggestions from practice, not findings from a study.
01
Scope it small
Pick two or three tasks that are frequent, repetitive and checkable: minutes, first drafts, document search.
Pick five to ten volunteers across at least two teams.
Pick data you may use. Start with non-sensitive or already approved material.
Name the owner and the sponsor.
Say what the pilot is not: not a rollout, and not a promise to buy.

0
Agree scope, owner, data rules and success criteria in writing; sign the pilot agreement; set up accounts
A one-page pilot charter
1
Install and configure; load a first set of documents; short training; take baselines for the chosen tasks
Baseline timings and trained volunteers
2 to 3
Daily use on the chosen tasks; a 30-minute weekly check-in; log problems and wrong answers
An issue log and first measurements
4
Mid-point review: fix what can be fixed, adjust or stop, and check that data and access rules held
A decision to continue, change or stop
5
Final measurements; compare with the baseline; sample quality; survey the volunteers
A results table
6
Decision meeting: go, change, extend or stop; export the sample data; agree next steps
A written decision and lessons
03
Success criteria and stop rules
Success: a minimum net saving per task after checking, a quality floor from sampled review, and volunteers who would keep using it.
Stop at once if personal or client data leaves approved boundaries, if a serious error reaches a client or a court, or if the system cannot be explained or switched off.
Write both before week one, and sign them off with the sponsor.
04
What to put in the pilot agreement
The fee and what it covers, agreed in writing before installation.
Scope, duration and named people on both sides.
Data handling: where data stays, who can access it and how it is deleted at the end.
What happens at the end: return, delete or convert to a purchase.
Support response during the pilot.
How pilot data and outputs may be used. Nothing of yours should be used to train anything.
05
Measure what matters
The GOV.UK AI Playbook lists, among the capabilities a team needs, the ability to test with real users and measure the performance of the service. For time saved, measure net minutes after checking, because experience shows that feeling and measurement can differ: in METR’s randomised trial, experienced developers expected AI to cut task time by 24%, yet measured completion time rose 19%. A study of 5,179 customer support agents found a 14% average productivity gain, with the biggest gains for novices. See the question on whether AI is saving time for a measurement method.
06
What ANVE says
A demo call with ANVEAI is free. Pilots are paid, and the fee is agreed in writing before installation. ANVE is pre-release: no sealed unit exists, the software runs today on a development machine and there are no customers yet, so say plainly in the pilot agreement which hardware the pilot will run on and which functions work today.
Agents that ANVEAI builds with a paid pilot, such as legal research, compliance check, tender response, action follow-up, a policy helpdesk, and a voice front desk that answers callers in Hindi or English on AnveVoice, are not shipped products. Ask what training and support the fee includes.
07
Questions people ask
Why is an ANVE pilot paid?
ANVEAI’s stated terms are that the demo call is free, the pilot is paid and the fee is agreed in writing before installation. A written fee and scope tie both sides to the same plan: what is installed, for how long and with what support.
How many people should be in a pilot?
Five to ten volunteers from two or more teams is enough to see patterns without a large commitment.
What if the pilot fails?
A pilot that ends in a clear no is a result. Write down why, delete the data as agreed and keep the criteria for the next attempt.

What is not real yet
No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.
