CUDA The software layer between AI tools and NVIDIA graphics cards.
Short answer. CUDA is NVIDIA’s platform for accelerated computing and the software layer between AI tools and its GPUs. NVIDIA introduced it in 2006 so that any computation, not only graphics, could use a GPU’s parallel throughput. The CUDA Toolkit provides the compiler, libraries and developer tools, and GPU libraries such as cuBLAS and cuDNN are what AI frameworks call to run on the card. For a buyer, CUDA means an NVIDIA GPU works with software built for it, while AMD’s ROCm and other stacks are alternative routes: the model can be the same, but the software path to the chip differs.
01
What is inside CUDA
The CUDA Toolkit: a compiler, a runtime library and developer tools for building GPU applications.
GPU-accelerated libraries such as cuBLAS, cuFFT, cuDNN and CUTLASS, which NVIDIA says frameworks use to get their speed.
Programming from C++, Python and Fortran, so developers can add GPU computing at any layer of their software.
Profiling and debugging tools, and a programming guide that NVIDIA keeps up to date (version 13.4.2 as of October 2026).
02
How a model reaches the GPU
You rarely write CUDA yourself. An AI framework or inference engine calls NVIDIA’s libraries, which call the driver, which runs on the card. Each layer has to match the others: the card’s architecture, the driver, and the CUDA version the software was built with.
That coupling is real. The faster-whisper documentation notes that the latest versions of its CTranslate2 engine support only CUDA 12 and cuDNN 9, and that systems still on CUDA 11 must install an older engine release.

Compatibility checklist
Name the exact GPU and the software you will run, then check the software’s install notes for the CUDA and driver versions it needs.
Keep the driver, CUDA runtime and framework build in step; a mismatch can stop a tool from starting.
If you use containers, check the CUDA version inside the image as well as on the host.
Ask who will update drivers, and how an update is tested before it reaches the machine people use.

Where ANVE stands
ANVE’s Office Pro unit uses an NVIDIA RTX PRO 4000 Blackwell, which runs CUDA. ANVE One uses an AMD Strix Halo class chip, the family AMD’s ROCm matrix lists; ANVE Office and ANVE Office Pro use NVIDIA graphics cards. Today ANVE’s models are reachable through the runtime’s own OpenAI-compatible endpoint, Ollama or vLLM. ANVEAI installs updates on site today, signed update packages applied offline by USB are not on ANVE yet, and ANVE does not update itself over the internet. No sealed unit exists yet.

Questions people ask
Do I need CUDA to run local AI?
Only if the GPU is NVIDIA’s. AMD GPUs use ROCm, and tools such as ComfyUI support NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Apple Silicon and Ascend hardware. Small models also run on a CPU.
Can an AMD GPU run CUDA programs?
Not directly. AMD’s HIPIFY tool helps translate CUDA source code to HIP, but AMD says it cannot convert everything automatically and the result needs code review and testing.
What is cuDNN?
NVIDIA’s library of deep-learning building blocks, one of the GPU libraries AI frameworks use. NVIDIA names it alongside cuBLAS, cuFFT and CUTLASS.
Which CUDA version do I need?
The one your AI software was built for and your driver supports. Check the tool’s install notes: faster-whisper, for example, says which CUDA and cuDNN versions its engine needs.

What is not real yet
No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.
