Data portability Getting your data out in a form another system can use.
Short answer. Data portability is the ability to receive your data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and move it to another provider without obstruction. In EU law it is a right for individuals: Article 20 of the GDPR applies where processing is based on consent or a contract and is carried out by automated means. The EU Data Act adds switching and porting duties for business customers of cloud services. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 has no general portability right; its data principal rights are information, correction and erasure, grievance redressal and nomination (sections 11 to 14). For an office using AI, portability is mostly a matter of contract and format: what you can export, in which formats, and for how long after you stop. This is general information, not legal advice.

Portability in four instruments
Law
Who benefits
What it gives
EU GDPR, Article 20
Individuals
Their personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, sent to another controller where technically feasible
EU Data Act, Articles 23 to 30
Business customers of data processing services
Switching, or porting exportable data and digital assets to another provider or to on-premises infrastructure
India DPDP Act, sections 11 to 14
Individuals
No general portability right; rights to information, correction and erasure, grievance redressal and nomination
DPDP Rules, First Schedule, Part B
People who use a consent manager
Their consent records, in machine-readable form on request

What portability means for AI data
Documents and files: the originals, in their own formats.
AI outputs: minutes, decks and drafts as DOCX, PPTX or PDF, not a viewer-only format.
Conversation history: exportable with dates and users, for example as JSON.
Audit logs: who asked what and when, which you may need to answer a regulator after you leave.
Configuration: prompts, assistant instructions and user lists, so they can be rebuilt elsewhere.
Indexes: usually not portable between embedding models, so keep the source documents to rebuild them.
03
Contract terms to ask for
Ask for export of all data at any time, a retrieval period after termination, a list of formats, and confirmed deletion afterwards. The EU Data Act sets useful benchmarks: a retrieval period of at least 30 days after the transitional period, an exhaustive list of the data that can be exported, and full erasure afterwards. The RBI’s IT outsourcing direction lists data completeness and portability among the points banks should weigh in exit plans for cloud services.

On ANVE
As the /security page sets out, everything sits in one database on the box in the office. ANVE’s makers export decks and documents as PPTX, PDF and DOCX, and screens from its UI/UX maker as HTML or a React component. For export and deletion details beyond that, get them in writing before a paid pilot.

Questions people ask
Do individuals in India have a right to data portability?
Not under the DPDP Act, as of October 2026. They can ask for a summary of their data and its processing under section 11, which is not the same as receiving it in a portable format.
Is a PDF export enough?
For reading, often yes; for moving data into another system, structured formats such as CSV or JSON work better. The GDPR asks for structured, commonly used and machine-readable formats.
Can we move our AI document index to another vendor?
Usually not directly, because an index depends on the embedding model that built it. Keep the source documents and rebuild the index on the new system.

What is not real yet
No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.
Reservations are ₹999 in India or US$12 elsewhere, refundable in full until you confirm an order in writing (terms). Offices that cannot use cloud AI can apply to be one of ten design partners.
