Can we take our data with us if we stop using it?
You can take what you can export, so test an export before you buy.

Short answer. You can take whatever you can export, so find out before you buy. Your originals, the documents and recordings, are already yours. Work products such as slides, minutes and drafts should leave in standard files. System data, meaning chats, logs, search indexes and settings, is portable only if the vendor provides an export, and an index can be rebuilt from the originals. Run a trial export during the pilot and open the result in another tool. India’s DPDP Act gives people a right to a summary of their personal data and of who it was shared with (section 11); it does not use the word portability.

02

Ask for a trial export

  • Do it during the pilot, not at the end of the contract.
  • Export one team’s chats and one set of work products.
  • Open them in a different tool and check that dates, users and source citations survived.
  • Time it: an export that takes a week of vendor effort is not an export.
  • Keep the sample as evidence of what was promised.
03

Exit terms to write down

  • The right to keep running the delivered software, and for how long (a perpetual licence is different from a subscription).
  • A full export of everything in the table, in named formats, for a stated period after notice, at no extra fee.
  • Deletion of any of your data the vendor holds, confirmed in writing. For returned hardware, ask for media sanitisation to a recognised standard such as NIST SP 800-88.
  • Support for a stated transition period.
  • Notice periods for price rises and for withdrawal of a feature.
04

The law, briefly

This is general information, not legal advice. Section 11 of the DPDP Act lets a data principal obtain from a data fiduciary a summary of the personal data being processed and the processing activities, and the identities of the other fiduciaries and processors it was shared with. Section 12(3) covers erasure on request. These are rights of individuals over their personal data held by an organisation. They do not give an office a right to export its own business data from a vendor; that comes from the contract.

05

What ANVE says

ANVE’s makers export to standard files: presentations as PPTX, PDF or DOCX; designs as HTML or a React component; research papers as Word or PDF, including IEEE and ACM formats. Exports open in Google Slides and Docs, Zoho Show and Writer, and Microsoft Office.

On exit, the published position is that the box keeps working if ANVEAI shuts down, every order includes a perpetual licence for the software delivered with the unit, and there is no remote kill switch (see /security). A full export of chats, logs and the document index is not described here. ANVEAI confirms it in writing before a paid pilot.

Questions people ask

Do we own what the AI writes?
That is a separate question; see the answer on who owns what a local AI model writes.
Can we keep using the box if the vendor stops?
It depends on the licence and on what the box needs from the vendor to keep working. See the question on a vendor shutting down.
Is the document index portable?
Rarely. It is tied to the embedding model that built it, and Open WebUI’s documentation notes that embeddings from different models are not compatible. Keep the originals and expect to rebuild.

What is not real yet

No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.

Reservations are ₹999 in India or US$12 elsewhere, refundable in full until you confirm an order in writing (terms). Offices that cannot use cloud AI can apply to be one of ten design partners.
