Private AI for government offices. Files, orders and citizen data stay inside the department.
Short answer. Government departments hold records that their own rules require them to keep confidential. Said AI tools and apps such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek on office computers and devices pose risks to the confidentiality of government data and documents, and should be strictly avoided. Pasting official files into a public cloud chatbot hands them to a third party. ANVE is a private AI appliance on the office network, so work such as summarise a 200-page tender or project report and draft a reply to an RTI application or grievance for officer review happens without the records leaving the building, for named users with an audit trail. India has 784 districts (Local Government Directory, checked 6 October 2026), each with its own administration, alongside central ministries and their attached offices.

Context and other jurisdictions
Rajya Sabha reply, 27 March 2025 (as reported): The Government told Parliament there was no specific prohibition on AI tools in government offices, but officials must protect the security and confidentiality of public data.
DPDP Act s.17(2)(a) and s.17(4): Some State processing is exempt or partly exempt from the DPDP Act, so for many departments the main constraints are service rules, official-secrets law and CERT-In guidance.

Questions people ask
Can a government office use ChatGPT with official files?
There is no blanket ban: the Government told the Rajya Sabha in March 2025 that there was no specific prohibition on AI tools in offices, but officials must protect the confidentiality of official data. A January 2025 Finance Ministry note asked staff to avoid tools such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek on office devices. Under the DPDP Act, an organisation stays responsible for processing done on its behalf by a vendor (s.8(1)). Keeping AI on the premises avoids sending official files out at all. This is general information, not legal advice.
