AI PC
A personal computer with an NPU: useful for local features, not an office AI server.

Short answer. An AI PC is a personal computer with a neural processing unit (NPU) alongside its CPU and GPU, so that some AI tasks can run on the device itself. Intel defines it by three engines: the CPU for quick response, the GPU for high throughput and the NPU for sustained AI work at lower power. Microsoft sets a stricter bar for its Copilot+ PC label: an NPU capable of at least 40 TOPS, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. The label tells you about local features such as live captions and image tools. It does not tell you that the machine can serve a large language model to an office, which depends mostly on memory.

Three engines

EngineIntel’s descriptionExample from a specification sheet
CPUQuick response times; general-purpose tasks and sudden heavy workloads16 Zen 5 cores in AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395
GPUHigh throughput; large tasks that need parallel work, including large AI workloadsRadeon 8060S with 40 graphics cores in the same chip
NPUPower efficiency; sustained, heavily used AI tasks at lower powerUp to 50 TOPS in the same chip; up to 126 TOPS overall (AMD)
02

The Copilot+ PC bar

  • An NPU capable of at least 40 TOPS.
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • A 256 GB SSD.
  • Windows 11 version 24H2 or newer.
  • Microsoft’s developer guide adds that many NPUs support only integer maths in lower bit formats such as INT8, so models have to be converted (quantised) to run on them.
03

What an AI PC does well

Microsoft lists features that run on the NPU, such as live captions that translate audio from more than 40 languages into English, even offline. It says models that target the NPU give better battery life and faster inference. Intel says running AI on the PC lets you bring sensitive data back to your own device and out of the cloud.

Read the footnotes. Microsoft states that some Copilot+ features, for example image creation in Photos and Paint, need a Microsoft account and an internet connection to reach cloud services.

Where ANVE stands

ANVE is not an AI PC. It is one device on the office network, for many named users, with every model call logged. The AMD chip specified for ANVE One includes an NPU, which AMD rates at up to 50 TOPS for the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, but it is the large memory pool that lets a box that size hold an office-sized model. Models run on the box, and a cloud model is used only if an administrator adds a provider, with its answers labelled. Roles today are administrator and user, and single sign-on is not on ANVE yet. No sealed unit exists yet.

Questions people ask

Do I need an AI PC to run AI?
No. AI runs on a CPU, a GPU or an NPU. The label mainly signals support for a vendor’s local features, and small models run on ordinary processors.
What does 40 TOPS mean?
Forty trillion operations per second, at a low precision such as 8-bit. It is Microsoft’s minimum NPU rating for Copilot+ PCs. Our NPU and TOPS page explains what it does and does not tell you.
Is an AI PC private?
Intel says local AI lets you keep sensitive data on your own device. Microsoft notes that some Copilot+ features need an internet connection and cloud services, so check each feature you rely on.
Can an AI PC replace an office AI server?
Not by itself. It serves one user, while an office needs shared accounts, roles, a record of use and a model held in enough memory for many people.

What is not real yet

No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.

Reservations are ₹999 in India or US$12 elsewhere, refundable in full until you confirm an order in writing (terms). Offices that cannot use cloud AI can apply to be one of ten design partners.
