ANVE

Private AI glossary · updated 2026-10-06

Local LLM.
Defined in plain words, for offices deciding how to use AI.

Short answer. A local LLM is a large language model whose weights are downloaded and run on your own hardware, a laptop, mini PC, workstation or server, instead of being called through a cloud API. Tools such as Ollama and LM Studio make this a one-command job for a single technical user. Quality depends on the model’s size and the memory available: small 3B to 8B models run on modest hardware, while 27B to 70B models need a large GPU or lots of unified memory.

01

Why it matters for an office

A local LLM solves privacy for one person. An office also needs user accounts, permissions, an audit trail and someone to maintain it, which is the gap between a local LLM and a product.

02

How ANVE uses it

ANVE runs local models (27B-class by default, with a fast 4B-class model alongside) and adds the office layer around them.

Questions people ask

What is the best way to run an LLM locally?
For one person, Ollama or LM Studio on a machine with enough memory. For an office of many people, you also need accounts, roles and audit; see our comparison with a mini PC running Ollama.
