- Is a private AI appliance the same as on-premise AI?
- On-premise AI means the models run inside your own premises. An appliance is one packaged way to get it, with hardware, models and applications delivered together. A server you assemble yourself is also on-premise, but it is not an appliance.
- Does a private AI appliance need the internet?
- Not to run its models. Once a model is stored on the device, answers are generated locally; Ollama’s documentation, for example, says models are pulled to the machine before use. The internet is needed to download models, to receive updates and for anything you choose to switch on, such as web search or a cloud model.
- How does the cost compare with a ChatGPT Business subscription?
- As of October 2026 OpenAI lists ChatGPT Business at ₹1,800 per user per month on annual billing, which is ₹5,40,000 a year for 25 users. ANVE Office, for up to 25 named users, has an indicative price of ₹4,49,000 excluding GST, or ₹13,999 a month for 48 months as rent-to-own directly from ANVE, with care included and the box yours at the end; it is not yet on sale. The comparison is not like for like: the largest hosted models are stronger on hard tasks, and an appliance has to be bought, housed and supported.
- Who looks after an appliance?
- By design the vendor does, which is the main difference from a server you build yourself. Ask any vendor who installs updates, whether the device updates itself over the internet, and what happens to the device if the company closes, and get the answers in writing.
