Where in the office should an AI box go? Somewhere lockable, cool and ventilated, near the switch and on backup power.
Short answer. Put it somewhere lockable, ventilated, cool and dry, close to the network switch and on a UPS, and away from public areas. Avoid under a desk, a sealed cupboard, a window ledge and reception. NIST’s server guide asks, among other planning questions, whether there are physical protections such as locks, whether temperature and humidity are controlled, whether there is a backup power source and for how long, and whether there is fire containment equipment. Heat also costs money: APC says every 8°C rise in temperature halves the life of a lead-acid battery, so keep the UPS cool as well.
01
Five tests for a location
Lock. Can it be locked, and do you know who holds the keys? NIST lists locks, card readers, guards and intrusion detection as examples of physical protection.
Air. Is there space around the vents and a way for hot air to leave? Avoid sealed cupboards, and check the maker’s operating temperature range.
Clean and dry. Keep it away from dust, water pipes, windows and kitchen areas.
Power and network. A socket on the UPS and a short, tidy cable run to the switch.
People. Away from visitors, cleaning kit and delivery routes. Can you live with the noise?

03
Heat and dust
Heat shortens the life of components. APC says the optimal operating temperature for a lead-acid battery is 20 to 25°C and that every 8°C rise in temperature cuts its life in half, which matters because the UPS sits next to the box. NIST’s server guide asks whether environmental controls keep the necessary temperature and humidity.
Look up the maker’s rated operating range for the box and compare it with the warmest afternoon in the room you have in mind. Keep intake vents clear, clean filters if there are any, and do not stack objects on top.
04
Who can touch it
Physical access is part of security. NIST SP 800-53 control PE-3 covers verifying who is authorised to enter, keeping access logs, securing keys, and changing keys or combinations when they are lost or when people leave. In a small office that becomes a key-holder list, a sign-out sheet and a lock that is changed when a key goes missing.
Noise and power draw depend on the hardware. See the questions on noise and on electricity for ranges.

What ANVE says
ANVE is pre-release and no sealed unit exists yet; images on the site are labelled renders. Its dimensions, operating temperature range, noise level and power draw are not published here. Ask ANVEAI for those figures in writing before a paid pilot, and site the launch unit against them.
06
Questions people ask
Can it sit in the open office?
Only if it is locked down and you accept the noise and dust. Most offices are better served by a lockable cabinet or comms cupboard.
How far from the router can it be?
As far as a tidy cable run allows. Keep it to a short wired run to the switch, plan the cable path, and avoid trailing cables across floors.
Does it need air conditioning?
It needs air at a suitable temperature. Check the maker’s operating range; a cooled room is not always required. See the server-room question.

What is not real yet
No sealed ANVE unit exists; every image of the appliance on this site is a labelled render. The software runs today on a development machine. No customers yet, no certifications, no delivery date, and the final price is not announced.
